Purpose of the Post

The successful candidate(s) will deliver an integrated expert service to meet the Occupational Therapy needs of patients within the Care of the Older Person setting.

He/she will join an experienced team of occupational therapists and multi-disciplinary colleagues delivering a care of the Older Adult Service across a range of settings which includes Emergency Department (ED), Acute Geriatric Ward, Medical/Surgical wards, and the wider HSE Mid West Acute Services.

The Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist(s) will provide the advanced clinical knowledge and expertise to design and implement a high quality service. He / She will be responsible for the effective and efficient delivery of an evidenced based, patient focused, quality infused Occupational Therapy. The Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist(s) will act as an expert Clinical Lead in the Care of the Older Person specialty and contribute to the leadership and development of occupational therapy colleagues in the care of the Older Person service.

The post holder(s) will work in collaboration with the Occupational Therapist Manager and Occupational therapists in planning, co-ordinating, delivering and evaluating the Older Adult services. The Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist (s) with the Older Persons team will work as part of a collaborative leadership team in conjunction with all relevant stakeholders. The Clinical Specialist will contribute to the development of the Occupational Therapy service commensurate with a National Centre of Excellence and in line with National Strategy and Clinical Care Programmes.

The Occupational Therapist should abide by the Code of Ethics of the Association of Occupational Therapists of Ireland.
