Our Purpose

The Structural Heart and Aortic integrated Operating Unit offers minimally-invasive approaches to restore proper structure and function of the heart and the aorta. We focus on the transcatheter replacement or repair of the four heart valves—aortic, pulmonic, mitral, tricuspid—and the placement of stent grafts to treat aneurysms and dissections of the body’s largest artery, the aorta.
  • Contributes to research and development of heart valve products and procedures.
  • Responsible for clinical and preclinical image analysis to support use condition assessment, product development, and predictive modeling.
  • Activities will include image analysis of pre-, intra-, and post-procedural images, method development including collaboration with physics-modeling engineers, design engineers and test engineers, project management, validation, preclinical support, and documentation of methodologies.
  • Contribute to the anatomical database to support aortic and structural heart disease research and development.
  • Apply expertise in specialist 3D software to reconstruct, segment and analyze human and animal anatomical datasets collected with MR, CT, biplane fluoroscopy or ultrasound scans.
  • Write and edit measurement scripts in Python and MATLAB
  • Support product development teams with preclinical activities and research and technology activities.
  • Develop predictive models to improve screening methods
  • Apply expertise and knowledge of cardiac anatomy and physiology to HVT projects and activities.
  • Analyze data and document research efforts in scientific reports.
  • Collaborate and network across functions and Medtronic businesses, educate them on disease states, cardiac anatomy and physiology, Heart Valve Technology (HVT) products, and device/anatomy interactions.
  • Research topics in structural heart disease including valve repair, valve replacement and transcatheter valves.
  • Collaborate with external researchers and physicians on (HVT) projects.
  • Submit invention disclosures and assist with patent filings.
  • Continuous research into realistic device-anatomy interactions and virtual patient modeling.
  • Organize, prepare and present technical information material in a clear, effective and skillful manner to management
  • Perform required training and certifications to demonstrate compliance with applicable divisional and corporate policies in accordance with individual training matrix.
  • Maintain technical knowledge current with advancing technology related to imaging analysis of cardiovascular valve repair/replacement products and associated accessories by engaging in continuing education programs in selected disciplines and in new fields of engineering and/or project management.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements (To be considered for this role, please ensure the minimum requirements are evident on your resume):

  • Bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering, biotechnology, physiology, engineering, computer science or related discipline required.
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience

Nice to Have:

  • Knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology and pathology.
  • Experience with post-processing of CT data (Mimics or 3Mensio)
  • Experience with Python and/or MATLAB
  • Statistical Shape Modeling
  • PC experience (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project, etc.)

The provided base salary range is used nationally (except in certain CA locations). The rate offered is compliant with federal/local regulations and may vary by experience, certification/education, market conditions, location, etc. Base pay is based on numerous factors and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$100,800.00 - $151,200.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
