The Clinical Specialist collaborates with residential program management, nursing, psychiatrist, and outpatient clinicians to help manage daily operations, provide clinical consultation to staff, and ensure coordination of care for individuals receiving specialized residential support services. Using a system of care approach, this position is responsible for consistent development and implementation of individual service plans and daily oversight of social rehabilitation programming. This position provides a variety of therapeutic interventions and teaching strategies for specialized skill development used to increase adaptive skills for greater independence, enhance community participation, increase self-sufficiency and replace or modify challenging behavior that may prevent or interfere with an individual’s inclusion in community life. This position includes supervision of one full time employee. 


Essential Functions

  • Develop and oversee daily social, recreational and rehabilitative programming. 
  • Provide oversight and approval of development and implementation of individual service plans reflecting individual preferences, goals, lifestyles, and interests.   
  • Assists in the screening of residential service referrals by assessing clinical needs, admission criteria and appropriateness for level of care
  • Support the development of transition plans related to admission and discharge.
  • Respond appropriately to emergency situations and provides intervention and support in crisis situations. 
  • Collaborates and coordinates care with an interdisciplinary team which includes residential program staff and management, nursing, psychiatrist, and outpatient clinicians. 
  • Partner with program management and clinical teams to build stronger culture and training programs. 
  • Provides training as assigned to meet regulatory and funding requirements and to improve service delivery and overall program quality.
  • Serves as a resource and support to staff, supervisors and directors.
  • Maintain positive leadership role and maintain professional demeanor.
  • Serves as member of the STAR management team. 
  • Participate in on-call rotation night and weekends, when applicable.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.  


Other Functions

  • Participates in achievement of agency objectives, goals, and mission.
  • May be required to administer and interpret assessment tools and prepare written reports as needed.  
  • Assist with development and implementation of quality improvement plans and monitoring adherence with applicable regulations. 
  • Attend and participate in regular supervision.
  • Conduct supervision with assigned staff.  
  • Performs job within framework of agency, site, and professional standards.
  • Participate in staff meetings and training programs.
  • Adhere to agency/site policies and procedures including HIPAA requirements.
  • Cooperates and coordinates with management team on all clinical issues.
  • Projects a positive attitude and image to staff, participants, family members, and outside contacts.
  • Uses appropriate communication channels.
  • Completes assignments independently and within specified time frames.
  • Displays motivation and interest in working creatively with people who have mental illness/disabilities.
  • Demonstrates the ability to make sound judgements regarding the welfare of people served.
  • Reports/addresses safety concerns in a timely manner.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to incorporate and foster use of evidenced based and emerging best practices, psychiatric rehabilitation principles, recovery-oriented models of treatment/ rehabilitation, and a strength based, person centered approach to service delivery. 
  • Motivation, interest and ability to work empathetically with people who have a mental illness and a history of problem sexual behavior.
  • Strong collaborating skills, and an ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multitask and be flexible with regard to workload and assignments.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  • Computer proficiency and experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems is preferred.
  • Ability to effectively handle multiple assignments and to work independently.

Required Education: Bachelor's Degree

Preferred Education: Master's Degree

Field of study: Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, related fields of study

Work Experience: 2 to 3 years

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations Required: Valid Driver’s License
