Job Summary

This position performs standard and complex neurodiagnostic procedures on patients of all ages. Facilitates all aspects of study completion and reporting within the department. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all healthcare personnel. The Neurodiagnostic Educator demonstrates advanced knowledge of EEG/neurophysiologic identification in the EMU and remote locations in the hospital. Trains and educates the work of other staff and students in Neurodiagnostic and Epilepsy Monitoring areas. Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor or manager of the EEG department. Assumes reponsibility for designated areas and procedures.

Accountabilities

  • Performs electroencephalograms of all types by operating digital neurodiagnostic  equipment, specifically including video monitoring according to ACNS guidelines and Department policies. - 10%

  • Acts as a trainer for new Neurodiagnostic team members and EEG students for all standard and complex neurodiagnostic procedures  for Neurodiagnostic and Epilepsy Monitoring areas. Assists with teaching tutorials during team meetings. – 10%

  • Performs EEGs in accordance with 10-20 system outlined by ABRET.  Performs EEGs in accordance with the Medical Director guidelines, departmental policies, and departmental procedures on patients of all ages. - 20%

  • Understands how to interpret EEGs, identifies the different types of seizures, and documents this information in the recording when the patient is having an event. - 10%

  • Communicates clearly with interdisciplinary team, including physicians, to contain pertinent and appropriate information regarding patient status. - 5%

  • Monitors and reasseses patient status in reponse to treatment and goal achievement.  Demonstrates an advanced knowledge of recognizing and appropriate response to take during patient medical emergencies and seizure onset. - 10%

  • Maintains a high skill level of knowledge of EEG through ongoing education and sharing that information with staff members. Provides insight and ideas on how to improve staff morale, quality control, education, and customer service.  Promotes individual professional growth and development meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency. – 10%

  • Knowledge of appropriate actions to take during patient medical emergency and seizure onset situations. Demonstrates positive interpersonal skills with patients, patient family members, technologists, physicians, END Manager and other health care team. - 10%

  • Extracts all relevant patient information from clinical history, patient and progress notes. Explains the recording procedure to the patient all others present.Adopts methods and uses instrumentation to obtain optimal results based on history, clinical observations and tracing findings. Responsible for understanding patient billing. Troubleshoots equipment and technical problems and gives appropriate instruction to staff or refer to Bio-Medical. Available for on-call and STAT lab procedures on week-ends and evenings. Meets Department yearly competency requirements. Accepts responsibilities delegated by Neurodiagnostic Manager. - 10%

  • Acts as a liaison between management and staff. – 10%

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

Job has direct and/or indirect supervision of team members that may include final budget authority, hire/termination authority, performance appraisal responsibility and disciplinary authority. Job will be considered a member of management staff at Prisma Health or affiliate and will have direct reports.

Minimum Requirements

  • Associate Degree required. RPSGT credential or graduate of accredited Neurodiagnostic training program preferred.

  • 3 years in Neurodiagnostic experience required. Proven competency and experience in a large, acute care hospital setting preferred.

In Lieu Of

In lieu of the 2 required Certifications/Registrations, 5 years experience in a large teaching hospital along with 1 registry; or Bachelors Degree with 1 registry and 3 years experience may be accepted.

Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses

  • Registered EEG Technologist required (R. EEG T.)

  • Additional certification/registration by ABRET or other accrediting body in Neurodiagnostic field required (Examples include but not limited to: EP, CNIM, CLTM, CAP, CMEG and R. NCS. T.).

  • BLS certification required.

Knowledge, Skills or Abilities

  • Must be detail-oriented, organized, and have excellent oral and written communication skills.
