Health Systems Clinical Specialist Sr.

Responsibilities of the Health Systems Clinical Specialist Sr.

Lead the review and organization of clinical data structures, ensuring data accuracy, usability, and compliance with clinical standards.

Collaborate with stakeholders to identify and resolve structural and semantic issues in Oracle Health’s Event Set Hierarchy (ESH), supporting accurate clinical decision support and patient safety.
-
Define and standardize Discrete Task Array (DTA) requirements for clinical event codes to support consistent documentation and interoperability across VA/DoD systems.

Ensure DTAs align with Oracle Cerner standards, enabling smooth integration of clinical workflows and decision support systems.

Oversee mapping of clinical terminology to national standards, including SNOMED CT and LOINC, to enhance data integrity and interoperability.

Develop guidelines to identify and address redundant or outdated codes, collaborating with internal and external partners.

Create and update SOPs for managing ESH repair efforts, implementing tools and processes to ensure efficient terminology management.

Recommend and document best practices, using advanced tools like machine learning to streamline data organization and defect resolution.

Collaborate with VA, DoD, and Oracle Health teams to align ESH initiatives and maintain project documentation on shared platforms.

Participate in regular project meetings, providing updates and maintaining records of terminology and data mapping improvements.

Perform quality assurance on ESH configurations, prioritizing tasks based on patient safety and clinical impact.

Recommend updates to clinical documents and data structures to support accurate reporting, patient access, and decision support.

Ensure clinical documentation is configured for viewing in required health information exchanges, like the Joint Legacy Viewer (JLV).

Maintain compliance with national data standards to support accurate release of information and accessibility for clinical users.

Provide quarterly, monthly, and weekly status updates to the client utilizing dashboards, presentations, and delivering predefined deliverable documents to the client.
Candidate Requirements:
-
Must have clinical background to provide technical analysis for VHA programs.
-
A minimum of 3 to 5 years of Oracle Health (Cerner Millennium) experience is required.
-
VA and / or DoD experience is a plus.

Work closely with the Medical Terminology Analysts and Clinical Subject Matter Experts (SMEs).

Provide significant support for high-complexity tasks and make definitive recommendations to senior leadership.

Strong knowledge of clinical terminology management, including mapping and normalization of source data to target terminology SDOs.

Ability to use MS Visio and other relevant software tools for creating process flows and visual representations of data.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex clinical data and identify areas for improvement.

Ability to work independently and in a team environment, managing multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.

Strong understanding of healthcare operations, clinical workflows, and healthcare management practices.

Ability to lead and facilitate cross-functional teams to achieve project goals and objectives.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with healthcare professionals and stakeholders.

Offer expert advice and guidance on clinical practices, protocols, and technology.

Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including clinical leaders, physicians, and SME’s.

Optional: Clinical Terminology expertise for SNOMED new term submission. Expert in Healthcare IT standard reference terminology analysis such as LOINC and SNOMED CT, RxNorm, and other SDO terminologies.

Educational Requirements:

A master’s degree plus 5 years of experience or bachelor's plus 6 - 10 years of experience in Clinical area, Business Administration, Health Informatics, Hospital Administration & Policy, or another related scientific discipline is required.
