Description

Inova Fairfax Hospital has a unique and exciting opportunity for a dedicated Pharmacy Clinical Specialist- Oncology Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) to join the team and assist in building the BMT Program. Come join a pharmacy team that is part of the Trauma 1 hospital where there is constant innovation and growth.


The Pharmacy Clinical Specialist ensures safe, appropriate, and cost-effective medication therapies are made available for patients according to established policies, procedures, and protocols. Assumes staffing responsibilities in the role of a Pharmacist to ensure smooth department operations. Provides education and information on pharmaceutical care and drug therapies to patients and healthcare team members. Supports quality initiatives through data management and analysis and effective operation of the department through policy development and liaising with members of the medical community.


This is a full-time Monday – Friday 40hrs per week days/evenings rotation position.

Job Responsibilities:



  • Facilitates the development and implementation of treatment guidelines, protocols, formulary changes and critical pathways.

  • Facilitates the identification, resolution, implementation, and communication of cost-effective medication use issues in collaboration with the medical staff.

  • Provides clinical consultation and clarification to practitioners and patients and suggests appropriate and cost-effective therapeutic alternatives to medical staff as needed.

  • Monitors drug therapy regimens for contraindications, drug-drug interactions, drug-food interactions, adverse drug reactions and appropriateness of drug/dose.

  • Prepares and presents drug reviews, MUE criteria, antibiotic sensitivity reports, adverse drug reaction reports and pharmacy intervention summaries to the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.


Qualifications:


 Experience:



  • Five (5) years of clinical oncology experience PREFERRED. 


Education:



  • Doctorate of Pharmacy (PharmD).

  • PGY1/PGY2 Oncology residency required.


Certifications:



  • Licensed Pharmacist in the state of VA. 

  • Board certified Oncology Pharmacist or certification obtained within two (2) years of employment.
