A Day in The Life

Medtronic is looking for a Senior Systems to join the Systems Engineering Team within the newly formed Surgical Operation Unit. This role will collaborate across the Surgical OU Research and Development organization to bring innovative new medical devices to patients. The successful candidate will work with a cross functional team to execute functional decompositions, customer and product requirement development, and system and subsystem architecture documentation. She or he will also actively participate or lead trade-off studies, prototype evaluations, and clinical acceptability studies.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:

· Report to a Systems Engineer Manager within the Systems Center of Excellence of the Surgical Operating Unit, R&D division.

· Translate user needs and business inputs to customer and stakeholder requirements.

· Analyze use cases, document product lifecycle, and define use conditions.

· Perform functional analysis and functional allocation; develop and manage product requirements; document system and subsystem architecture.

· Partner with design quality assurance in risk management activities including preliminary hazard analyses and risk mitigation strategies.

· Employ Model Based Systems Engineering to document and communicate system design.

· Oversee, and be deeply acquainted with, regulated development processes and standards for risk management, usability, and safety to ensure systems design and documentation meet relevant safety and regulatory standards.

· Hands-on work with the Robotic System to evaluate user facing behavior.

· Support Systems Engineering activities throughout the product lifecycle including design change impact analysis, labelling and packaging requirements, field issue investigation.

· Investigate system integration issues to identify root cause and propose resolution.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

· Bachelor’s Degree with 4 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with 2 years of relevant experience.

Nice to Have

  • Advanced knowledge of Systems Engineering principals and best practices
  • Strong communication skills
  • Experience developing complex electromechanical medical devices.
  • Strong grasp of design controls and good documentation practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and contribute to a cross functional team.
  • Experience in requirements management, risk management, and system architecture documentation.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$104,800.00 - $157,200.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
