Position Overview

The Division of Mental Health is seeking to hire a position to perform professional social work duties as a Transition-Age Youth Clinical Specialist for children, adolescents, and families who need assistance through the Children’s Behavioral Health Care Portal, specifically targeting adolescents aged 18-22 who are navigating the transition between child/adolescent and adult service delivery systems. This position provides technical assistance for specialized mental health service programs; conducts assessments of individuals and families, provides clinical consultation and coordinates linkage to statewide programs; and collaborates with inter-agency team members and completes reports and documentation.


Essential Functions


  • Serves as the statewide Transition-Age Youth Clinical Specialist for children and adolescents seeking assistance through the Children’s Behavioral Health Care Portal. 

  • Evaluates and researches system factors ensuring a familiarity with the etiology, phenomenology, and treatment for transition-age youth and young adults.

  • Serves as key team member, collaborating with the inter-agency staffing group and sharing information with key partners as permitted by consent and interagency agreements, with the goal of overcoming barriers to obtaining behavioral health services for children/youth and families.

  • Completes required reports for case files and prepares summary reports for supervisor.

  • Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.


Minimum Qualifications


  • Requires a master’s degree in social work from a recognized college or university supplemented by two (2) years of professional social work experience in the evaluation and treatment/habitation of mentally ill, developmentally disabled, or other disabled persons.

  • Requires licensure as a Clinical Social Worker by the Department of Professional Regulation.


Specialized Skills



  • Of the two (2) years of professional social work experience, requires two (2) years of experience working with children and/or adolescents.




Preferred Qualifications


  • Two (2) years of professional experience working with children and/or adolescents.

  • One (1) year of professional experience working with children and/or adolescents with anxiety, depression, psychosis, eating disorders or disorders that result in a danger to self.

  • One (1) year of professional experience evaluating and providing technical assistance, guidance and advice for accessing specialized children’s mental health service programs for a public or private organization.

  • Two (2) years of professional experience making clinical judgements based on best practices and established practices in the social work field.

  • Two (2) years of professional experience completing reports and summaries of case files.

  • Two (2) years of professional experience communicating effectively both verbally and in written form.
