Job Summary: The Behavior Health Services Clinical Specialist reports to the Director of Special Services. A thorough understanding of State and Federal laws and regulations applying to the delivery of student behavioral health services utilizing national standards of behavioral health counseling, and the unique role Behavior Health Services Specialist provide in support of an institution of education is required.
This position's overall responsibilities are to support the Special Services department in addressing the whole child by providing clinical expertise and program-wide support of the Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) framework in assisting students and schools. This position provides direct individual and group clinical services to students enrolled in the district's programs for students with emotional and behavioral disabilities. The clinician in this role also provides direct support and guidance to building administrators, teachers, and staff supporting these students and provides clinical consultation related to IEP goals and services, which may include analyzing data, providing support and guidance with Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS) to special education case managers and special education specialists and promoting evidence based behavioral health practices focusing on prevention and intervention as well as social emotional education. This position also supports coordination of care with external providers and systems in support of the students on their case load. This position provides a consultative relationship with school staff and leadership in developing and supporting the implementation of positive behavior support initiatives including trauma informed and culturally responsive practices, adverse childhood experiences (ACES), restorative practices and approaches to reduce opportunity gaps, disproportional discipline practices, and special education referrals.
LICENSE/ REQUIREMENTS • First aid- and CPR certification is required. • Valid Washington State driver's license. • Hepatitis B immunization.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS • Master's degree in mental health counseling, social work, psychology or related discipline • Experience providing behavioral health services in a school setting preferred. • Licensed mental health professional in Washington State (LMHC, LICSW, Licensed clinical psychologist or related) • Licensed Mental Health Clinician Associates (LMHCA) within one year of licensure encouraged to apply Last updated 7.2025 • Evidence based trainings in Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), Life Space Crisis Intervention, Trauma-informed practices, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) preferred
WORKING ENVIRONMENT Generally, the job requires 80% sitting, 10% walking, and 10% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations, generally hazard free environment, and in a clean atmosphere.
