Description

The PACS Clinical Specialist works under the supervision of the Director. This position will play a key role in the introduction and updating of PACS, voice recognition, and in leading change management in the healthcare institution. A key responsibility will be the breaking down of barriers to change in the clinical environments, as PACS is introduced. Development of a PACS strategic plan including technical and clinical training and system implementations. The PACS Clinical Specialist may be involved in designing acceptance testing criteria and overseeing the testing as new systems are installed. Ongoing quality assurance testing management. Provides input for managing service contracting and evaluates service performance. Leads process improvement teams as they relate to PACS, voice recognition, and RIS technology.



Responsibilities
  • Develops and initiates a PACS training program for providers and staff.
  • Manages on-going training initiative and Super Users team for new personnel and system upgrades. Maintains training and competency log to ensure appropriate training levels are acquired.
  • Provides first-line support to application level problems and questions after system go-live. Works with Technology Services resources to assure operational efficiency of the PACS and RIS. Works closely with Technology Services to ensure tight integration of PACS with institutional clinical information strategy.
  • Manages and reviews system utilization, error and report turn around. Develops/manages the quality assurance program of the PACS. Performs exam verification as needed.
  • Assists project management team in the design and implementation of system upgrades and new technologies implementation of filmless imaging system upgrades and new technologies implementation. Testing of new applications and software.
  • Assists in the development of departmental and institutional policies and procedures associated with PACS and the availability of images to referring physicians.
  • Manages and coordinates PACS-related efforts of lead technologists in each modality area.
  • Manages and coordinates efforts in support of referring physicians (i.e. image/study look up, CD burning, outside image loading, etc.).
  • Conducts system demonstrations and new staff PACS orientation and training.
  • Manages and coordinates voice recognition functionality, testing, implementation for users. Maintains templates within the voice recognition system.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of a quality management plan for PACS. Develop and implement a quality control program to ensure equipment is maintained and handled properly.

Education
  • H.S. Diploma - High school diploma or GED equivalent - Required
  • Bachelor's Degree - Preferred

Work Experience
  • Experience in a technical discipline (e.g., computer science) - Preferred

Licenses and Certifications
  • Registered Technologist (R.T.) - Preferred Upon Hire Or
  • Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT) - Preferred Upon Hire Or
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) - Preferred Upon Hire

Travel Requirements
  • Mut be able to travel between various system facilities and off-fite locations as needed. - Required
