What will you be doing?

Are you ready to lead the future of connected healthcare technology? As a Principal Commercial Healthcare Solutions Architect, you will design, develop, and deploy enterprise-grade IoT digital health systems that transform clinical workflows and elevate patient care. You will be at the forefront of innovation, shaping Smith+Nephew’s healthcare technology strategy and driving integration across EMR/EHR platforms, HL7 interfaces, and clinical reporting systems.

In this role, you will define and own the technical architecture for large-scale healthcare deployments, ensuring they align with compliance standards and customer business goals. You will identify unmet needs and lead the development of reusable, productized solutions that reduce friction and accelerate adoption. As a trusted advisor to strategic clients, you will guide them through complex integrations and digital transformation initiatives, while establishing best practices for implementation and support.

You will provide expert oversight on HIPAA, HiTrust, NIST, and SOC2 frameworks, and partner with legal teams to review security language in agreements.

You will mentor engineering teams and subject matter experts, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.

Technically, you will architect and deploy HL7, ADT, EMR/EHR, and reporting interfaces across diverse healthcare environments. You will develop automation tools for implementation, support, and monitoring, and lead commercial technical engagements across cross-functional groups. You will manage custom configurations and integrations for enterprise healthcare clients, and author technical documentation, knowledge base content, and implementation playbooks.

If you’re passionate about improving healthcare through technology, thrive in fast-paced environments, and bring deep technical expertise with a strategic mindset—this is your opportunity to make a lasting impact.

What will you need to be successful?

To excel in this role, you will need a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, with a master’s degree preferred. You will need at least ten years of experience in healthcare IT, including hands-on work with HL7, EMR/EHR systems, and interface development. Familiarity with platforms like EPIC, Cerner, and Mirth will be highly beneficial. You will need deep expertise in SQL, PowerShell, JavaScript, and modern programming languages, along with proven experience working in AWS and Azure cloud-hosted environments.

You will need a strong understanding of healthcare security and compliance standards, and be familiar with ISO 13485, HIPAA, NIST, ISO 27001, and medical quality systems. Exceptional communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills will be essential, as will your ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, multitask effectively, and perform under pressure. You will need to demonstrate success in leading cross-functional teams and delivering enterprise-level solutions, and be willing to travel up to 25% of the time.

Beyond technical skills, you will need to be respected by peers and customers for your integrity and technical acumen. You will need to be a strategic thinker with a bias for action, passionate about improving healthcare through technology, and comfortable operating in fast-paced, matrixed environments. You will need to bring fresh perspective, energy, and leadership to the team—and know how to travel quickly, efficiently, and economically.
