The Medtronic Surgical Operating Unit brings together a highly engaging cross-functional and collaborative approach to employ the full breadth of our talent, technologies, products, services, and solutions that address the needs of customers and patients across the globe.

In this exciting role as a Principal Embedded Software/Firmware Engineer, you will have responsibility for architecting, designing, and implementing embedded software that maximizes the value of our Surgical products for our customers. You will engage with stakeholders and system engineering to capture and prioritize needs and then synthesize the needs into Surgical product features.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in C++ programming language, embedded systems development, and a deep understanding of the medical device product development practices.

You will work in R&D within the Embedded software team developing software for advanced surgical medical devices. You will extend capabilities of existing devices and drive the design for multiple new devices that are under development by our Surgical embedded software team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Developing a high-performance C++ code for embedded systems.
  • Implement and optimize clinical applications to enhance performance and reliability of embedded systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the accuracy and efficiency of the code conversion.
  • Optimize computation to achieve real-time processing performance on embedded platforms.
  • Document code and processes to facilitate future maintenance and updates
  • Design, implement, and test applications for embedded medical device
  • Own design and roadmap across multiple medical devices and related product
  • Optimize solutions for reliability, efficiency and performanc
  • Design for privacy, security and authenticity concern
  • Troubleshoot and identify technical and interface issues
  • Create documentation throughout the development process
  • Commit to achieving and exceeding project goals and timeline
  • Perform duties in compliance with the Quality System

Must Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience with data storage design on an embedded device, in a Linux development environment experience OR Master's degree with a minimum of 5 years experience OR PhD with 3 years experience.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$148,000.00 - $222,000.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).
