A Day in the Life

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Principal Health Economics and Outcomes Specialist will be a critical leader in Surgical OU Statistics and Health Economics & Outcomes Research (HEOR) team. This role is responsible for providing strategic, analytical and methodological expertise to support the development and execution of global health economic and outcomes research evidence for Surgical products, procedures, services, and disease focus areas. Specifically, this role will provide leadership and support to design and execute RWE (Real World Evidence) studies using administrative health care claims data, electronic health record data and other data sources to fulfill the evidence needs of Surgical products and are submitted to regulatory agencies and notified bodies. In this role, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams with clinical, regulatory, medical affairs, marketing, reimbursement, healthcare policy, and other functions on real world evidence generation strategies, research methods, study design, and research standards using real world data. other duties may be assigned.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design and implement RWE studies for regulatory agency submissions, fulfillment of evidence needs submitted to notified bodies, marketing decisions and product reimbursement strategies, using administrative health care claims data, electronic health record data and other real-world data sources

  • Provides hands-on support in study design, protocol development, analysis, programming, interpretation, study report and presentation of RWE studies by designing and conducting scientifically rigorous research

  • Drive and develop the publications (abstracts, posters, oral presentations, manuscripts) based on the analyses performed, with the intent of publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentation at clinical and economics conferences.

  • Prepare results of analyses for internal and external presentation; with content adapted to the audience at hand. Create visually appealing and simple to understand representation of complex analyses

  • Authors and documents all studies related files by complying with internal SOPs and best practices

  • Works with clinical research function to add relevant health outcomes and economic endpoints to clinical trials, and clinical biostatisticians to analyze and report study results

  • Design, modify, or implement economic models using inputs from clinical and observational data research, literature review, and clinical or stakeholder expertise.

  • Develop country specific evidence to meet requirements for optimal reimbursement coverage and usage

  • Conducts a range of ad hoc projects and other tasks as needed to support functional excellence of health economics and outcomes research

  • Develop procedure and device-specific knowledge of Surgical product portfolio and published evidence, and apply this knowledge to evidence planning, needs assessment, and study protocol design

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working with healthcare claims and/or EHR data

  • Proficiency programming using statistical software (e.g. SAS, R, etc), data visualization, graphical presentation, and study report/manuscript preparation

  • Strong subject matter expertise in real-world data and retrospective data analysis methods

  • Proven track record of peer-reviewed scientific publications

EDUCATION REQUIRED:

Bachelor’s degree

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of 7 years of experience working in health economics and outcomes research, or an advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years of experience

DESIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master or PHD degree in Biostatistics, Statistics, Economics, Health Economics, Epidemiology, Health Services Research, or Public Health

  • Experience in the healthcare industry (medical device, pharmaceutical, biotech, insurance, hospital, or health system)

  • Strong analytic and quantitative and research design skills; experience with statistical methods for handling large observational database.

  • Strong experience with statistical programming (SQL/SAS).

  • Experience with data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI).

  • Experience and familiar with literature systematic review and meta-analysis.

  • Experience with economic modeling.

  • Experience with advanced predictive modeling techniques (machine learning algorithms) and their potential application to retrospective healthcare data

  • Experience in the analysis, synthesis, and presentation of complex data from multiple sources

  • Proven relationship-building and maintaining skills with internal and external stakeholders including physician customers, hospital administrators or payers

  • Proven ability to work effectively in a highly matrixed organization

  • Ability to lead and influence in projects with cross-functional teams

  • Proven ability to strategically manage a portfolio of projects or initiatives with high business acumen

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$136,800.00 - $205,200.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
