A Day in the Life

As part of the Value Engineering team, you will support value engineering activities for commercialized products. The ideal candidate will have a design mindset that will improve devices in terms of cost, manufacturability, and ease of clinical use. You will support or be involved in the forefront of technology and innovation to bring ideas to fruition. This candidate will also support medium to high complexity cost savings projects, manufacturing process improvements, and product redesigns.

This role will be based in North Haven.

  • Product Design & Development: Improve the value of legacy products through design optimization.

  • Value Engineering Execution: Perform product tear downs, functional analysis, and feasibility studies with minimal oversight.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinate and lead VAVE events with R&D, Marketing, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Suppliers.

  • Risk & Quality Assurance: Participate in DFMEA, PFMEA, and CTQ processes to ensure proposed changes maintain device integrity.

  • Innovation & Brainstorming: Facilitate creative methods to uncover opportunities across entire product value streams.

  • Business Case Development: Prepare robust proposals to secure project funding and present recommendations to leadership.

  • Supplier Engagement: Partner with Medtronic’s supply base to identify and evaluate value improvement opportunities.

  • Project Management: Track execution and performance against stated goals; communicate progress to stakeholders.

  • Technical Leadership: Provide guidance on design control, DFM/DFA principles, materials, and clinical considerations.

  • Talent Development: Mentor team members and contribute to best practices and standard procedures.

Must Haves

Bachelor’s Degree and 4+ years of Engineering experience OR Advanced Degree and 2+ years of Engineering experience OR PhD

Nice to Have

  • Lean Six Sigma certification

  • Medical Device or Regulated Industry experience

  • Strong project management capabilities with experience in medical process validations

  • Solid design, troubleshooting and presentation skills

  • Sets the standard for timeliness, work ethic, and personal integrity

  • SolidWorks, Office Suite, Minitab

  • Knowledge of FDA Quality Systems Regulations and ISO Quality Systems

  • Well versed in manufacturing methods and materials

  • Experience in assembly equipment technologies

  • Working knowledge of GD&T

  • Working knowledge of DFMEA, PFMEA, and Risk Tools

  • Working knowledge of DFA/DFM principles

  • Strong analytical skills

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$102,400.00 - $153,600.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).
