The Opportunity
This position works out of our Irving, TX location on site in the Core Team in Abbott Diagnostics. Our diagnostic solutions are used in hospitals, laboratories, and clinics around the globe. The crucial information derived from our tests, instruments, and informatics systems is often the first step in patient care decision-making for hundreds of health conditions from heart attacks to blood disorders to infectious diseases and cancers.
The Systems Integration Specialist ensures that hardware, software, and assay subsystems work together as a cohesive system. This role focuses on system-level performance, integration testing, and compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
Responsibilities
Integrate hardware, software, and assay components into a unified system.
Ensure end-to-end traceability of functionality and product performance requirements.
Collaborate with Systems Engineers to:
Evaluate system performance against requirements.
Identify potential impacts and plan integration testing.
Support multiple projects and design changes, especially during investigations.
Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues across subsystems.
Ensure system design and documentation meet safety and regulatory compliance.
What You’ll Do
Write, execute, and review moderately complex system verification and characterization protocols.
Work hands-on with software, instruments, platforms, and assays—including robotic liquid handling systems—to:
Troubleshoot system-level issues.
Identify root causes of hardware-software-assay interaction problems.
Recommend quality improvements and corrective actions.
Participate in design and test planning reviews for software, hardware, and system components.
Define test plans and methods based on user needs and system requirements.
Analyze data using quantitative methods to evaluate results and suggest improvements.
Identify and implement process improvements; estimate activities for project planning.
Lead or contribute to moderately complex projects and deliverables.
Independently troubleshoot system-level issues and lead investigations.
Communicate system-level issues across cross-functional teams.
Collaborate with software, hardware, test, operations, and manufacturing teams to ensure system performance meets customer expectations.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)
Minimum 3 years Relevant work experience
Moderate knowledge of Good Lab Practice, Good Manufacturing Practice, laboratory duties, PC Skills, data representation
Experience with executing integration test plans for complex electro-mechanical systems
Experience independently leading project activities and demonstrates decision making skills
Demonstrated experience in participating in cross functional teams
Demonstrated success in technical proficiency, creativity, and independent thought
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Experience with root cause analysis
Hands on experience with diagnostic medical equipment in a laboratory environment
Knowledge of basic project management concepts
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with statistical data analysis
Prior medical device experience: Electro-mechanical, chemical, or biochemical technologies as they pertain to the design, integration, evaluation and commercialization of diagnostic systems
Experience implementing various product and process improvement methodologies (e.g. Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing)

The base pay for this position is
$60,000.00 – $120,000.00In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
